Breaded Tofu, Tempeh or Seitan
A very popular way to eat tofu and seitan at our house!
1 pound of extra firm tofu, tempeh or seitan steaks
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup soy milk
2 cups bread crumbs
1 tbsp poultry seasoning
2 tsp sea salt
You’ll want to marinate your tofu, tempeh or seitan if it’s unflavoured. Try a mixture of 1/3 cup soy sauce, 1/4 cup maple syrup, 1/2 tsp garlic powder or minced garlic, and 2 cups water. Let sit in this mixture for a couple of hours *or* bring marinade to a boil and simmer tofu or seitan in it for about 20 minutes.
Place the flour, soy milk and bread crumbs+herbs & spices+salt in three seperate containers. Dredge the tofu or seitan first in the flour, then the soy milk, and then coat heavily with the seasoned bread crumbs. Place breaded tofu or seitan onto an lightly oiled baking sheet, leaving space between each piece.
Preheat your broiler, and broil the breaded tofu or seitan for 3-5 minutes on each side, until browned and crispy looking.
Serve in sandwiches or as a main dinner dish with gravy.
